| Cuenta la leyenda que un buen día se dirigió un señor muy adinerado a un buen hombre, de profesión escultor, con el fin de encargarle una imagen de Cristo en la Cruz. El escultor aceptó la petición y pasados dos años hizo dicha imagen. Para transportarla al pueblo del hombre, el escultor compró un buen asno, lo ató y se dirigió a pie hasta aquel lugar. A su paso por Azuaga muy cansado de tanto caminar, el hombre y el asno se pararon en una posada, y esa noche el asno murió, por lo que tuvieron que proporcionarle otro asno para que continuara el viaje, pero al arrancar también reventó, por lo que se entendió que el Cristo no quería continuar y se quedó para siempre en Azuaga, en el lugar de la posada se edificó la Iglesia del Santísimo Cristo del Humilladero. |
