VALDIVIA, CASTILLO DE LA ENCOMIENDA / CASTLE ENCOMIENDA / CHATEAU ENCOMIENDA

El castillo se encuentra a 6km. de la población por la carretera dirección a Valdivia. El castillo se edificó durante el siglo XIII sobre un cerro rodeado de peñascos donde ya habia ruinas de una fortaleza árabe llamada Mojafar, del siglo X. Cuando se construyó se le dió el nombre de Castelnovo, que hace referencia al castillo viejo que hubo antes en el mismo lugar y posteriormente se le ha llamada castillo de la Encomienda, debido a que fue, durante mucho tiempo, encomienda de la Orden Militar de Alcántara.

Su parte más elevada en su recinto amurallado de paredes almenadas y dos grandes torres, una cuadrada y otra cilíndrica, que domina una planta rectangular de edificaciones adyacentes en cuyos extremos hay dos torreones también cilíndricos.

El castillo es vivienda particular y no se puede visitar, las fotos estan tomadas desde el camino que accede al mismo.
