En Arroyo de la Luz (Cáceres) hay un elegante rollo de piedra berroqueña junto a la carretera Cáceres-Alcántara. En su tiempo debió estar en la plaza pero en un determinado momento se sacó fuera de la población, aunque hoy ha vuelto a quedar integrado en el caserío, que ha crecido.

El rollo (del latino "rotulus") representaba la categoría administrativa del lugar, levantándose sólo en los villazgos. Éste fue concedido a Arroyo de la Luz en 1503 por los Reyes Católicos, posiblemente cuando se libró del señorío de los Herrera y pasó a ser villa realenga.

Según Covarrubias, el rollo era "como la picota o horca hecha de piedra en forma redonda" pero, mientras el rollo y la picota se instalaban dentro de la población, la horca se situaba en las afueras.
