La casa-palacio del municipio de Torremejía, fue ordenada construir por la familia meridana de los Lastra o Mexía, en el mismo lugar donde se estima, los romanos levantaron una torre vigía para controlar a los viajeros del ramal sur de la Vía de la Plata.
Es don Gonzalo Mejía quien funda la población en 1370 y ordena volver a levantar la atalaya que da nombre al municipio, popularmente conocida como torre de los Mojinetes y junto a la que, en el siglo XVI, la familia Mexía ordena la construcción de la actual casa-palacio, de estilo renacentista.
Tras someterse a varias reformas y haberse visto modificado con el paso de los siglos y las diversas tendencias artísticas de la Edad Moderna, el palacio de los Lastra presenta, hoy en día, la misma portada de acceso con que se dotó al edificio en 1525.
Es, en esta franja que comprende la portada, así como en el lado derecho contiguo a la misma, donde siete piezas arqueológicas fueron colocadas como decoración.
