Iglesia gótica, construida en el siglo XIII sobre los cimientos de un templo romano y reconstruida en el siglo XVII. Es uno de los edificios medievales cristianos más antiguos de la provincia de Badajoz. Conserva la pila bautismal en la que fue bautizado el conquistador de México, Hernán Cortés, el 15 de noviembre de 1485.

Es de una sola nave con capillas laterales. Entre ellas, la gran capilla del Cristo de la Misericordia, de época barroca. En el muro meridional hay una gran portada gótica similar a otras extremeñas, como en Cáceres y Plasencia, fechable entre los siglos XIV y XV.
