BADAJOZ, IGLESIA DE SAN JUAN BAUTISTA / CHURCH OF SAN JUAN BAUTISTA / KIRCHE San Juan Bautista / ÉGLISE DE SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

La iglesia acoge actualmente al Sagrario de la Catedral, con la que comparte su nombre, y aunque por las remodelaciones sufridas pueda parecer desde fuera una construcción reciente, estamos ante un edificio verdaderamente histórico.

El templo pertenecía al desaparecido Convento de San Francisco. Este centro religioso fue uno de los más importantes de la ciudad de Badajoz, fundado posiblemente en el S. XIII. Las obras del mismo no finalizarían hasta el S. XVIII, fecha en que Juan V, rey de Portugal, favoreció la construcción de la iglesia al celebrarse en Badajoz el doble enlace matrimonial de sus hijos en 1729; así su hija Bárbara de Braganza se casó con el futuro rey español Fernando VI, y el Príncipe del Brasil, José de Braganza, con la infanta española María Ana Victoria.

The church now houses the Sanctuary of the Cathedral , with which it shares its name , and although the remodeling suffered from outside may seem a recent construction, this is a truly historic building. The temple belonged to the missing Convent of San Francisco. This religious center was one of the most important in the city of Badajoz, possibly founded in the thirteenth century . The works of the same would not end until the eighteenth century , when Juan V , king of Portugal, favored the construction of the church to be held in Badajoz double bond the marriage of their children in 1729 ; and his daughter Barbara de Braganza married the future Spanish King Ferdinand VI , and the Prince of Brazil, José de Braganza, with the Spanish Infanta Maria Ana Victoria.
